Altos del Chavon

Altos del Chavon

Altos del Chavón is a Mediterranean style villa built high above the Chavón river, to the southeast of the Dominican Republic just 110km from the historic city of Santo Domingo. Set on the peak of a lush and mountainous plateau, the villa lies within the boundaries of the Casa de Campo complex. It boasts a Cultural Centre, a National Archaeological Museum, the School of Design and an impressive amphitheatre.

The Church of St. Stanislaus is in the centre of the village. It is named in honour of St. John Paul II, as St. Stanislaus is the Patron Saint of Poland, the late Pontif’s home country.

The amphitheatre of Altos de Chavon has 5,000 seats. It was opened in 1982 with a show by Frank Sinatra and Carlos Santana, since when many artists have performed in this beautiful setting. Currently throughout the year there are performances from national and international artists.

This villa is source of inspiration for the artists that live, study or work there.
